Frequently Asked Questions
The maximum distances shown on our website are based on real-world testing carried out under controlled, favourable conditions. These figures are intended as a guide rather than a guarantee.
Our range testing is conducted using the following criteria:
- Rider weight: Approximately 11 stone (this reflects the test rider only; our e-bikes are designed to carry riders well above this weight)
- Assist level: Low power setting
- Weather conditions: Warm summer day
- Road surface: Good-quality tarmacked roads
- Terrain: Predominantly flat
- Wind conditions: Light or minimal wind
- Rider fitness: Medium
- Rider effort: Moderate, consistent pedalling
Actual range will vary depending on factors such as rider weight, terrain, elevation, assist level selected, weather conditions, wind, tyre pressure, and riding style. Using higher assist levels, riding on steep or uneven terrain, or facing adverse weather conditions will significantly reduce the achievable range.
If you expect to ride longer distances or tackle more demanding routes, we recommend planning accordingly or considering an additional battery.

Yes, all Volt bikes electrics are safely housed to protect them whilst cycling in even the worst weather.
It is essential however that after riding in wet weather to remove the battery and dry the battery housing and terminals with a cloth or towel.
(Don’t fully submerge the bike in water or wash your frame using a pressure washer.)
Our batteries lock into the bike with a key. The battery also detaches from the frame so you can remove it from the bike when locking it up, if you choose to.
All our batteries come with at least 2 keys. Allowing you to keep a spare in a safe place in case you misplace your primary key.
While eBikes are significantly heavier than regular bikes you won’t notice this extra weight when you ride one. Most pedal assisted eBikes also have a push assist button so the bike won’t even feel heavy when you walk with it.
Averaging around 20kg you will however notice the extra weight if you need to lift one onto a car rack. Of course you can always remove the battery to reduce the weight before you lift it.

Electric bikes use an electric motor to boost your natural pedalling power. All you need to do is turn the pedals and the eBike will automatically add a power boost. You can easily control your speed because the amount of power the eBike gives you depends on how much you pedal. You can also select different power modes to vary the amount of assist that the motor gives you. Pedalling will seem almost effortless (especially in the higher power modes) and you will find that you are able to climb and accelerate much faster than usual.

In Europe, an E-bike must have a motor with a maximum power of 250W, assisting the E-Bike to a maximum speed of 25 km/h. In the US, the rules are different. There, E-bike motors can have a max of 500W and assist up to 20MPH (32km/ph)
If the pedal support still functions above these limitations, then the bike becomes a so-called speed pedelec.
